MBBS internship stipend: the gap between states

The gap runs to more than twenty times

Colleges reported their intern stipends to the National Medical Commission up to January 2026. The highest is Rs. 43,099 a month, the lowest Rs. 2,000, for the same work.

West Bengal sits at the top of that list

Raiganj Government Medical College and Hospital reports Rs. 43,099 a month, which is the highest single figure across the 482 colleges on the regulator's list.

Delhi and Assam follow behind it

Maulana Azad Medical College in Delhi reports Rs. 34,310 a month. Gauhati Medical College in Assam reports Rs. 31,500. Both sit well above the national middle.

The south clusters in the high twenties

Bangalore Medical College reports Rs. 30,000 a month. SCB Medical College in Cuttack reports Rs. 28,000, Kozhikode Rs. 27,300 and Salem Rs. 26,523 for the same year.

The big northern states pay noticeably less

Seth GS Medical College in Mumbai reports Rs. 18,000 a month and Medical College Baroda Rs. 18,200. Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College in Jhansi reports Rs. 12,000.

The floor of the list is in the private sector

The Rs. 2,000 figure comes from Konaseema Institute of Medical Sciences in Andhra Pradesh. Private colleges hold most of the lowest entries on the regulator's list.
