MBBS freshers: five things to sort in week one

The undertaking comes before anything else

An anti ragging undertaking is a signed promise not to rag anyone. The student and a parent each file one online at antiragging.in, and it is kept for the whole course.

Save the helpline before you ever need it

The national anti ragging helpline is 1800-180-5522 and it runs in twelve languages. The email is helpline@antiragging.in, and the helpline is run by the government.

You have joined a five and a half year course

The Graduate Medical Education Regulations 2023, notified on 2 June 2023, set MBBS at four and a half years. A twelve month internship follows before you register.

Marking changed in 2024, and it changed a lot

The National Medical Commission published a new curriculum on 12 September 2024. You are marked on what you can do in front of a patient, not on what you recall.

The internship at the end is paid work

The internship regulations of 2021 give every intern a monthly stipend. It is a legal right, not a favour, and colleges answer to the regulator if they do not pay.
