How to Check a Medical University on WDOMS
Before paying any foreign university, check it in the World Directory of Medical Schools. It takes two minutes and here is exactly how.
What WDOMS is
The World Directory of Medical Schools is run by the World Federation for Medical Education with FAIMER. It aims to list every medical school in the world with up to date details on each.
Open search.wdoms.org and pick the country
Enter any one search field: country, medical school name or city. Tick Operational Yes to leave out schools that have closed. Spell the school name as the university writes it.
Match the school, the city and the faculty
Large universities have several medical faculties. Make sure the entry names the exact faculty and city in your offer letter, not a sister campus or a different programme.
Read the sponsor notes on the entry
A listing shows notes from sponsors such as ECFMG. For a USMLE route, the ECFMG note must cover your graduation year. The entry also shows when the programme began.
A listing is not approval
WDOMS states that a listing does not mean recognition, accreditation or endorsement. It confirms the school exists; the NMC rules on course length, internship and licence still decide your FMGE eligibility.
NMC does not endorse any list of foreign universities
NMC's information desk says it does not endorse any list of foreign medical institutions and that fee, course content, duration and internship must be confirmed with the university directly.

Our guide walks through both checks step by step with the FMGL Regulations 2021 conditions.
