Gap Certificate for NEET Counselling 2026

The gap certificate rule is not what most students assume

MCC's 2026 bulletin does not ask for one

The revised UG counselling 2026 information bulletin, dated 20 August 2026, lists the documents needed at reporting. A gap certificate does not appear anywhere in it.

What the bulletin does list

The MCC allotment letter, NEET admit card, result or rank letter, date of birth proof, class 10 and 12 certificates and marksheet, photographs and identity proof.

There is no cap on gap years

No National Medical Commission regulation limits the number of gap years before MBBS admission, and the NEET UG 2026 bulletin states there is no upper age limit.

The requirement comes from the college

Where a gap document is asked for, it is the allotted college asking. MCC's bulletin tells candidates to check the allotted college for any further document it needs.

The format is not standard either

Hamdard Institute in New Delhi asks for a notarised affidavit on Rs 100 stamp paper, Nirwan University in Rajasthan specifies Rs 50, and Assam's DTE uses a signed certificate.

What the affidavit usually has to state

The year and institution where class 12 was passed, whether any institute was joined since, the exact gap period, and proof of any exam taken during that time.
