Education Loan for MBBS Abroad: What Banks Offer

Education Loan for MBBS Abroad: What Banks Offer

Public sector banks publish their abroad education loan terms. These are the limits, margins and security rules as shown on their pages in October 2026.

SBI Global Ed-Vantage: Rs 7.5 lakh to Rs 3 crore

SBI's scheme covers loans above Rs 7.5 lakh up to Rs 3 crore for study abroad, with repayment by EMI over up to 15 years starting six months after the course ends.

Collateral free up to Rs 50 lakh at select institutions

SBI lists a collateral free limit of Rs 50 lakh for select premier institutions; other loans need tangible collateral. Processing fee is 0.5 per cent, minimum Rs 10,000 and maximum Rs 50,000 plus GST.

Bank of Baroda Scholar: up to Rs 1.5 crore

Baroda Scholar lends up to Rs 1.5 crore. No margin up to Rs 4 lakh, 5 per cent above that for premier institutions, and collateral of 100 per cent of the loan above Rs 7.5 lakh.

PNB Udaan: 15 per cent margin above Rs 4 lakh

PNB Udaan is need based finance with nil margin up to Rs 4 lakh and 15 per cent above it. No tangible security up to Rs 7.5 lakh; collateral of suitable value above that. Repayment up to 15 years.

Moratorium is course period plus one year

Bank of Baroda and PNB both give a moratorium of the course period plus one year. Simple interest accrues during the course and moratorium, so paying interest monthly reduces the final EMI.

PM Vidyalaxmi is for Indian institutions only

The PM Vidyalaxmi scheme gives collateral free loans up to Rs 7.5 lakh with a 75 per cent guarantee and interest subvention, but only for NIRF listed institutions in India, so it does not cover MBBS abroad.
