Six checks on a college before you pick it

Start with the regulator's college search

The National Medical Commission runs a public college and course search. It shows the university, the year the college opened, the seats and the recognition status.

Permitted and recognised are not the same

Permission lets a college admit students for one year. Recognition makes the degree count. The counselling bulletin warns a seat may be permitted and not recognised.

Check the seat count against the matrix

The seat matrix of 18 September 2026 lists 839 colleges and 140,664 MBBS seats. No counselling committee may allot more seats than the matrix shows.

The stipend a college pays is on record

The Commission publishes a college-wise list of the stipend paid to interns, covering 804 colleges. A college that is missing from it is worth asking about.

Faculty lists belong on the website

Every college must publish its faculty department by department, with each teacher's qualification and council registration number, updated by the fifth day of the month.

Fees and bond come from the college

The counselling committee takes no responsibility for the fee, the bond or the service conditions. Confirm all three with the college before you lock choices.
