Originals travel with you, and nobody else

The Embassy of India advisory is blunt. Your passport and your original certificates are your own property, and they should not be handed to agents or to anyone else.

Carry copies of every apostilled document

An apostille is the stamp that makes an Indian document valid abroad. Carry paper copies and scans of each one, because replacing an apostille from abroad is slow work.

Your passport turns into a record

State medical councils check attendance against passport entry and exit stamps, on the National Medical Commission's instruction. Those pages are evidence you will need later.

Register with the Indian mission on arrival

The Embassy of India asks students to register as soon as they arrive. The Ministry of External Affairs students portal, open since July 2015, does the same job online.

Budget for the first month before you fly

Beyond tuition, a student in Prague spends about EUR 400 to 600 a month in a dormitory and EUR 600 to 1,000 privately. The first month always costs more than the rest.
