The history of the University of Pécs dates back to 1367, but teaching was discontinued under Ottoman rule. In 1921, the university began operating as a state university and has been offering general and dental medicine in English at the medical faculty since 1984.In 1984, the University of Pécs established its first english-taught program, marking a pioneering initiative in Hungary. Subsequently in 2004, the university also introduced a German program.
