History
Introduction
Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) is a semi-autonomous institute under the State Legislature Act in Srinagar — the only medical university in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir, with the UT's Chief Minister as chairperson of its governing body. Alongside its main teaching hospital, it includes the State Cancer Institute, a Maternity Hospital, a Nursing College, a Paramedical College, and a medical college and hospital at Bemina. SKIMS is affiliated with the UGC, the National Medical Commission, the Indian Nursing Council, and the Association of Indian Universities, and provides quality medical and patient care in the region.

How to Apply
Admission to MBBS at SKIMS is through NEET-UG followed by counselling, under either the All India Quota (MCC) or the J&K quota (J&K Board of Professional Entrance Examinations, BOPEE). On seat allotment, students must report to SKIMS and complete documentation and admission formalities within the timeline.
The student must have completed Class 12 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English.

The minimum marks required in PCB subjects are approximately 50% for general-category and 40% for reserved-category students.
