Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) is a semi-autonomous institute under the State Legislature Act in Srinagar, the only medical university in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir, with the UT's Chief Minister as chairperson of its governing body. Alongside its main teaching hospital, it includes the State Cancer Institute, a Maternity Hospital, a Nursing College, a Paramedical College, and a medical college and hospital at Bemina. SKIMS is affiliated with the UGC, the National Medical Commission, the Indian Nursing Council, and the Association of Indian Universities, and provides quality medical and patient care in the region.

Admission Process for MBBS
Admission to MBBS at SKIMS is through NEET-UG followed by counselling, under either the All India Quota (MCC) or the J&K quota (J&K Board of Professional Entrance Examinations, BOPEE). The campus is equipped with digital radiology, MRI/CT scanners, dialysis units, cardiac cath labs, and labs supporting all courses and hospital diagnostics across pathology, microbiology, biochemistry, and more.
The central library holds approximately 24,520 books and 20,262 bound volumes (plus journals, theses, and WHO publications), and the on-campus Multidisciplinary Research Unit provides HPLC, western blotting, cell culture, microscopy, and electrophoresis facilities.
Recently inaugurated facilities include rest areas, a daycare ward, an OT block, a 4D CT simulator in oncology, and a new sports ground, with a 250-bed IPD block and lab block under construction at the Bemina campus.
The campus has a residential complex and sports facilities for students alongside its academic and clinical buildings.
