History
Introduction
Rangaraya Medical College (RMC), Kakinada is a government medical college in Kakinada, in the East Godavari region of coastal Andhra Pradesh. Founded in 1958 (initially as a private college, taken over by the Government of Andhra Pradesh in 1977 and a full-fledged government medical college since 1981), it is one of the older and larger medical colleges in the state. It is recognised by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and affiliated to Dr. NTR / Dr. YSR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada. It admits 250 MBBS students each year, filled purely on NEET-UG merit through government counselling, and also runs postgraduate MD and MS programmes across 19 disciplines (132 PG seats) and super-specialty (DM/MCh) programmes across 3 disciplines (4 seats). Its attached Government General Hospital (GGH), Kakinada is a major tertiary teaching hospital with over 1,100 beds, serving the East Godavari region.
As a government college, MBBS tuition at Rangaraya Medical College is very low and admission is by NEET-UG through the 15% All India Quota (MCC) and the 85% state quota (Dr. NTR / Dr. YSR UHS); there is no management or NRI quota. Clinical training runs at the attached Government General Hospital (GGH), Kakinada, a major tertiary teaching hospital with over 1,100 beds serving the East Godavari region. Its long history, government status, and wide patient base make it a preferred option for students seeking a government MBBS seat in coastal Andhra Pradesh.

How to Apply
Admission to MBBS at Rangaraya Medical College is entirely through NEET-UG merit. As a government college, seats are filled through two routes: the 15% All India Quota via MCC counselling and the 85% state quota via Dr. NTR / Dr. YSR University of Health Sciences (Andhra Pradesh) counselling. There is no management or NRI quota; candidates choose RMC on NEET-UG rank subject to category and domicile rules.
The student must have passed Class 12 (10+2) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English as compulsory subjects, from a recognised board.
Subjects:
Minimum qualifying-exam marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together: 50% for General/EWS, 40% for SC/ST/OBC, and 45% for PwBD candidates (per NEET-UG norms).
| Category | Minimum PCB % |
|---|---|
| General / EWS | 50% |
| OBC / SC / ST | 40% |
| PwBD | 45% |
The student must be at least 17 years old as on 31 December of the year of admission.
The student must have qualified NEET-UG in the same year, meeting the category percentile cut-off. State-quota (85%) seats require Andhra Pradesh local/domicile status; the 15% All India Quota is open nationally via MCC. There is no management or NRI quota.
