History
Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College, in its current medical-college form, dates to the late 1940s, but its roots go back much further. The institution began as Sealdah Medical School on 1 December 1873 after the Bengali section of Medical College, Bengal was shifted to Sealdah Municipal Hospital.
It became Campbell Medical School in 1884.
It was upgraded as Campbell Medical College in 1948, and was renamed Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College on 19 August 1950 after alumnus Sir Nilratan Sircar.
