Introduction
Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla is the oldest and largest government medical college in Himachal Pradesh. It is a government medical college in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, approved by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and affiliated to Atal Medical and Research University, Nerchowk, and admits 120 MBBS students a year on NEET-UG merit. It also runs postgraduate (MD/MS) programmes. As a government college, MBBS tuition is low — around ₹55,000 a year — one of the most affordable routes into medicine. Clinical training runs at IGMC Hospital, with around 800 beds.
To put the competition in context, around 22.7 lakh students registered for NEET-UG 2025 and 12.4 lakh qualified, against roughly 1.29 lakh MBBS seats across India, of which about 58,600 are in government colleges. As Himachal Pradesh's flagship government institute, IGMC Shimla fills its 120 MBBS seats purely on NEET-UG merit through the 85% Himachal Pradesh state quota (DME Himachal Pradesh) and the 15% All India Quota (MCC), with no management or NRI quota. How to Apply
Admission to MBBS at Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla is entirely through NEET-UG merit. Seats are filled purely on NEET-UG merit through two routes: the 15% All India Quota via MCC counselling and the 85% Himachal Pradesh state quota through the Directorate of Medical Education and Research, Himachal Pradesh. There is no management or NRI quota.
The student must have passed Class 12 (10+2) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English as compulsory subjects, from a recognised board.

Minimum qualifying-exam marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together: 50% for General/EWS, 40% for SC/ST/OBC, and 45% for PwBD candidates (per NEET-UG norms).
