Government Medical College (GMC), Vizianagaram is one of Andhra Pradesh's new government medical colleges, established in 2023 in the north-coastal Vizianagaram district, near Visakhapatnam. Set on a 70-acre campus and approved by the National Medical Commission (NMC) after inspection, it is affiliated to Dr. YSR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada, with an annual intake of 150 MBBS students. The college is attached to the Government General Hospital (GGH), Vizianagaram, a multi-specialty tertiary-care and referral hospital, which serves as its teaching hospital. How to Apply
Admission Process for MBBS
Admission to MBBS at GMC Vizianagaram is entirely through NEET-UG merit. Of the 150 seats, 15% fall under the All India Quota, allotted through the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), and 85% fall under the Andhra Pradesh state quota, counselled by Dr. YSR University of Health Sciences. State-quota seats follow Andhra Pradesh reservation rules and require local/domicile status.

The student must have passed Class 12 (10+2) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English as compulsory subjects, from a recognised board.

Clinical training takes place at the Government General Hospital (GGH), Vizianagaram, a multi-specialty tertiary-care and referral hospital that serves as the college's teaching hospital, with inpatient wards, operating theatres, intensive-care units and diagnostic services. The campus also provides hostels for students. As a newly established college, GMC Vizianagaram continues to add infrastructure and facilities.

Career Pathways After MBBS at Government Medical College, Vizianagaram
Graduates are eligible for NEET-PG to pursue MD, MS and diploma programmes across India; exposure at a multi-specialty district teaching hospital is useful preparation for postgraduate entrance.
After the compulsory rotating internship, GMC Vizianagaram graduates register with the NMC or their State Medical Council to practise. They can then specialise through NEET PG (MD, MS or DNB) and go on to DM or MCh super-specialty training through NEET SS.
