Introduction
Government Medical College, Srinagar (GMC Srinagar) is a public medical college started in 1959 — the first medical college in Jammu & Kashmir and one of the oldest in North India. It is ranked as the top medical college in the region, is affiliated with the University of Kashmir, and is recognized by the National Medical Commission. Its wide network of associated hospitals provides a high level of clinical exposure, and the college continues to train clinicians who serve the healthcare sector in India and abroad.

How to Apply
Admission to MBBS at GMC Srinagar is through NEET-UG followed by counselling, under either the All India Quota or the UT (Union Territory) quota. On seat allotment, students must report to the college as early as possible to confirm admission, after first registering on the college website and submitting the required details and documents.
The student must have completed Class 12 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English.

GMC Srinagar has an approximately 100-acre campus at Karan Nagar, with academic blocks, classrooms, laboratories, hostels, libraries, an auditorium (~380 seats), sports facilities, and gymnasiums. Two of its eight teaching hospitals (SMHS and the Super Specialty Hospital) are on campus; the other six are close by.

History
Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru laid the foundation stone of the college on 13 June 1957 to meet the state's need for medical education. The college was established in 1959 as the Jammu and Kashmir Medical College and admitted its first batch the same year.
