How to Apply
Qualifying NEET-UG is a mandatory requirement for MBBS admission. NEET-qualified students register for counselling — 15% All India Quota seats through the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) and the remaining 85% Punjab State Quota seats through Baba Farid University of Health Sciences. Students choose GMC Patiala during choice filling; seats are allotted on NEET rank, reservation category, and availability; and admitted students report to the college for document verification and admission formalities.

The main campus spreads over about 105 acres. The main academic complex houses the pre-clinical, para-clinical, and clinical departments needed for MBBS and postgraduate medical education, each with its own lecture halls, demonstration rooms, faculty offices, research areas, and practical laboratories.
History
Government Medical College Patiala was founded on 29 September 1953 at Patiala. The foundation stone of the medical college building was laid by Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India, on 21 December 1953. It started with a mission to match the growing demand for trained doctors and healthcare facilities in a region that then had a population of about 20 lakhs. When the college began its academic activities, the associated Rajindra Hospital was still under construction.
Rajindra Hospital, the teaching hospital, has its own historical significance. It was named after Maharaja Rajendra Singh (1856–1900) of the former Patiala State. The foundation of the hospital was laid earlier by Maharaja Yadvinder Singh on 15 April 1950. Initially a 500-bed facility, it has expanded over the decades to more than 1,100 beds.
The T.B. Hospital attached to the institution plays an important role in tuberculosis control programs. It has been designated as the Zonal Task Force Centre for North India for the involvement of medical colleges in the Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme.
Across more than seven decades, the college and Rajindra Hospital have grown from a modest start into a major teaching and referral institution serving Patiala and southern Punjab, while training generations of doctors.

Housing
Government Medical College, Patiala, provides on-campus hostel accommodation for undergraduate and postgraduate students, situated close to the main academic block and Rajindra Hospital.
The college has four hostels for undergraduate students within the campus premises, situated close to the main academic block and Rajindra Hospital.
