History

Introduction

GMC Paderu

Government Medical College (GMC), Paderu is one of Andhra Pradesh's newest government medical colleges, established in 2024 to serve the tribal Agency region of Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) district. Located in the hill town of Paderu, around 110 kilometres from Visakhapatnam, the college was built around the existing Government General Hospital, Paderu, which now functions as its roughly 420-bed teaching hospital. GMC Paderu is affiliated to Dr. YSR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada, and recognised by the National Medical Commission (NMC), with an annual intake of 50 MBBS students. For a student, its value is specific: it brings full medical training to one of India's most underserved tribal regions, and the clinical exposure to tribal and rural health here is difficult to match at an established city college.

Academic Excellence

Why Choose Government Medical College, Paderu, for MBBS

GMC Paderu is a young college, so you choose it for what it is and where it is: a brand-new NMC-recognised government medical college, with very low fees, built to bring doctors and tertiary care to the tribal Agency region of Andhra Pradesh.

A New NMC-Recognised Government College

GMC Paderu was established in 2024 and is recognised by the National Medical Commission, affiliated to Dr. YSR University of Health Sciences. A student joining now is part of its very first cohorts, with new buildings, laboratories and faculty being put in place.

Built for the Tribal Agency Region

Paderu lies in the Alluri Sitharama Raju district, a hill and forest region long underserved by healthcare. GMC Paderu and its teaching hospital are designed to bring full medical services and a permanent doctor workforce to this Agency area for the first time.

Unmatched Tribal and Rural Health Exposure

Training at GMC Paderu means real exposure to tribal and rural health, communicable disease, maternal and child health, and the logistics of reaching remote hill communities, which is exceptional preparation for community medicine and public health.

A ~420-Bed Teaching Hospital

The Government General Hospital, Paderu serves as the college's teaching hospital with around 420 functional beds, covering Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, ENT, Radiology, Emergency Medicine, Pathology and Anaesthesia, and acting as the referral centre for the Agency.

Among the Lowest MBBS Fees in India

As a state government college, GMC Paderu charges very low tuition, reported in the region of ₹10,000 to ₹25,000 per year under the government quota. The full MBBS course costs a small fraction of a single year at a private or deemed college.

Part of Andhra Pradesh's Medical College Expansion

GMC Paderu is one of several new government medical colleges opened across Andhra Pradesh to expand MBBS seats and place a medical college within reach of every district, increasing the state's overall doctor output.

  • Best decision of my life

    Student — early batch

Being one of the first batches at a brand-new college means you watch it grow around you, and the tribal-health exposure at the Agency hospital is something you simply do not get in a city college.

  • World-class clinical training

    Student — MBBS

Fees are very low and the hill setting is beautiful. You have to be patient, because as a new college the hostels and some facilities are still being built up.
