GMC Paderu
Government Medical College (GMC), Paderu is one of Andhra Pradesh's newest government medical colleges, established in 2024 to serve the tribal Agency region of Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) district. Located in the hill town of Paderu, around 110 kilometres from Visakhapatnam, the college was built around the existing Government General Hospital, Paderu, which now functions as its roughly 420-bed teaching hospital. GMC Paderu is affiliated to Dr. YSR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada, and recognised by the National Medical Commission (NMC), with an annual intake of 100 MBBS students. For a student, its value is specific: it brings full medical training to one of India's most underserved tribal regions, and the clinical exposure to tribal and rural health here is difficult to match at an established city college.

How to Apply
Admission Process for MBBS
Admission to MBBS at GMC Paderu is entirely through NEET-UG merit. Of the 100 seats, 15% fall under the All India Quota, allotted through the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) of the DGHS, Government of India, and 85% fall under the Andhra Pradesh state quota, counselled by Dr. YSR University of Health Sciences. State-quota seats follow Andhra Pradesh reservation rules, including reservations for Scheduled Tribes relevant to the Agency region. There is no private or NRI quota at this government college.

Academic Qualification
The student must have passed Class 12 (10+2) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English as compulsory subjects, from a recognised board.

Minimum qualifying-exam marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together: 50% for General/EWS, 40% for SC/ST/OBC, and 45% for PwBD candidates (per NEET-UG norms).

The campus has a purpose-built academic block with pre-clinical and para-clinical laboratories, lecture halls and a lecture gallery, and a central library. Clinical training takes place at the adjoining Government General Hospital, Paderu, which serves as the teaching hospital with around 420 functional beds and the main clinical departments. As a newly established college, GMC Paderu continues to add infrastructure, faculty and hostel facilities.

Career Pathways After MBBS at Government Medical College, Paderu
Graduates are eligible for NEET-PG to pursue MD, MS and diploma programmes across India; broad exposure at a sole-referral Agency hospital is useful preparation for postgraduate entrance.
After the compulsory rotating internship, GMC Paderu graduates register with the NMC or their State Medical Council to practise. They can then specialise through NEET PG (MD, MS or DNB) and go on to DM or MCh super-specialty training through NEET SS.
Graduates can join the Andhra Pradesh health services and the National Health Mission, where doctors experienced in tribal and rural healthcare are in demand; note that state-funded seats may carry a service obligation.
Graduates also join private and corporate hospitals in Visakhapatnam and other cities, where a strong clinical grounding is valued.

Andhra Pradesh Fee Reimbursement (Jagananna Vidya Deevena type schemes)
The Government of Andhra Pradesh operates fee-reimbursement and maintenance schemes for eligible students from economically weaker, SC, ST, BC and minority families in professional courses.
Post-Matric Scholarship (SC/ST/OBC), Government of India
The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment (SC/OBC) and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs (ST) fund Post-Matric Scholarships for professional courses including MBBS, covering tuition and a maintenance allowance, via the National Scholarship Portal (scholarships.gov.in). Many GMC Paderu students from Agency-region ST communities are eligible.
Central Sector Scheme of Scholarships (CSSS)
Administered by the Ministry of Education via the National Scholarship Portal, CSSS supports meritorious students from families below a defined income threshold who qualify in the top percentile of their Class 12 board, providing an annual maintenance allowance renewable on performance.
