Government Medical College, Nagpur, is located in Ajni, Nagpur, and was founded in 1947. Long celebrated as one of the largest government medical college campuses in Asia by land area, it was affiliated with Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University from 1947 to 1997 and is now affiliated with the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences. The college offers approximately 250 MBBS and 90 PG seats annually and has an alumni network of about 15,000+.

How to Apply
Admission Process for MBBS
Admission to MBBS at GMC Nagpur is through NEET-UG followed by counselling. NEET-qualified students participate in counselling, MCC conducts All India Quota counselling, while the Maharashtra State CET Cell conducts state-quota counselling. The process includes choice filling and locking and seat allotment based on NEET rank, availability, and reservation; allotted students report for document verification and fee payment.

GMC Nagpur spreads over approximately 196 acres, said to be the largest government-medical-college campus in Asia, with a trauma centre, emergency building, dental & general OPDs, a College of Nursing, a super-speciality building, an anatomy museum (1952), a two-floor library, sports facilities (including a swimming pool), and multiple hostels.
A hospital ward at GMCH Nagpur
The campus spreads over approximately 196 acres, the largest among government medical colleges in Asia, with a trauma centre, an emergency building, dental and general OPDs, a College of Nursing, a super-speciality building, and an oval garden in front of the academic block.
The academic building has an anatomy museum established in 1952 (with embryology and cross-sectional anatomy models), a large anatomy lecture hall with a projector and digital boards, a histology lab with microscopes, and a biochemistry lab seating about 100 students.
GMCH, the teaching hospital, has approximately 1,886 beds: including 395 medicine, 260 surgery, 295 obstetrics & gynaecology, 100 paediatrics, 60 chest & TB, and many others.
The two-floor library (~4,000 sq ft) seats 400+ with separate halls for undergraduate and graduate students, holding about 54,726 books (39,127 books, 16,000 bound journals, 2,700 theses) and around 16 computers.
Sports facilities include basketball, volleyball, football, table tennis, badminton, a cricket pitch, and a swimming pool.
There are about three hostels for boys and three for girls (each ~120 rooms), with two new hostel buildings (~125 rooms each) under construction.

From a 1943 Proposal to a 1947 Founding
Due to high demand for a medical college in the Nagpur region, a committee was appointed by Nagpur University's working council in 1943; its recommendations were positive, but the plan was delayed by the Second World War. The college started in 1947, when the Government of CP and Berar asked Dr. Jiwraj Mehta to suggest a suitable location, and he selected an open ground opposite Rajabaksha given the area's needy population.
