Academic Excellence

Key Highlights of Government Medical College, L.T. Marg, Mumbai

GMC L.T. Marg combines a 150-year legacy hospital foundation, two teaching hospitals with high patient volume, India's first transgender ward, a prime South Mumbai location, and faculty from the JJ Group of Hospitals.

150-Year Legacy Hospitals

Though the college is new, its two teaching hospitals — Gokuldas Tejpal Hospital and Cama & Albless Hospital — have served since 1875, and both buildings currently act as academic blocks and clinical training grounds.

Gokuldas Tejpal (GT) Hospital

GT Hospital is a multi-specialty hospital with ~1,021 beds, offering general surgery, ophthalmology, 24×7 emergency services, specialised treatment (varicose veins, hernia) and diagnostics including MRI and imaging.

India's First Transgender Ward

GT Hospital has India's first specialised transgender ward (~30 beds) with separate examination and dressing rooms and gender-neutral toilets, alongside a well-equipped emergency and accident ward — giving students diverse clinical exposure.

Cama & Albless Hospital

Cama & Albless Hospital, for women and children (~367 beds), has offered free Assisted Reproductive Technology since 2024 — the first public hospital in Maharashtra to do so — plus infertility and child-care treatments.

Prime Location & High Footfall

Together GT and Cama hospitals see a patient footfall of ~1,500+; the college sits in the heart of South Mumbai, with transport, hostels and city landmarks all close by.

Faculty from the JJ Group

Most of the faculty are from the Sir JJ Group of Hospitals, Mumbai, supporting students academically and clinically; the Mumbai location also enables participation in inter-college events at LTMMC, IIT Bombay and others.
