Government Medical College, Kozhikode — also known as Calicut Medical College — is a public medical college in Kerala and the state's second medical college. Previously affiliated with the University of Calicut, it is now affiliated with the Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS). Admission Process for MBBS

History Information

Founded in 1957

Government Medical College, Kozhikode, was founded in 1957 — the second government medical college in Kerala. Its foundation stone was laid by Governor Ramakrishna Rao, and it was inaugurated by the then Health Minister A. R. Menon.

GMCH and Allied Hospitals

The main teaching hospital, GMCH, started in 1966 with approximately 1,183 beds. IMCH, the Savithri Devi Saboo Cancer Institute, and the Chest Hospital were built in 1975 with 100+ beds each.

Super-Speciality & New Blocks

The college opened its Super-Speciality Block in 2006, and in 2010 introduced a new IMCH building and a state institute of sports medicine on campus.

Recent Expansion

The college opened a Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) block in 2023, and recently laid the foundation for a Kozhikode Institute of Organ & Tissue Transplantation.
