GMC Eluru
Government Medical College (GMC), Eluru is one of Andhra Pradesh's new government medical colleges, established in 2023 and approved by the National Medical Commission (NMC) in May 2023. Located in Eluru, the headquarters of Eluru district (formerly part of West Godavari), it began academic operations from the 2023-24 session with an annual intake of 150 MBBS students. The college is affiliated to Dr. YSR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada, and is built around the Government General Hospital, Eluru, its teaching hospital. GMC Eluru is part of the Andhra Pradesh government's initiative to set up 17 new medical colleges across the state, adding thousands of MBBS seats and placing a government college within reach of every district.

How to Apply
Admission Process for MBBS
Admission to MBBS at GMC Eluru is entirely through NEET-UG merit. Of the 150 seats, 15% fall under the All India Quota, allotted through the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), and 85% fall under the Andhra Pradesh state quota, counselled by Dr. YSR University of Health Sciences. State-quota seats follow Andhra Pradesh reservation rules and require local/domicile status.

Government Medical College, Eluru occupies a purpose-built campus in Eluru, the headquarters of Eluru district. The academic block houses pre-clinical and para-clinical laboratories, departmental libraries and seminar rooms, lecture halls, and facilities such as an anatomy museum, in newly constructed buildings. Clinical training takes place at the Government General Hospital, Eluru, the college's teaching hospital with around 330-400 beds and the major clinical departments, serving as a district referral centre. The campus also provides hostels for male and female students, with furnished rooms and study facilities. As a newly established college, GMC Eluru continues to add infrastructure and facilities.

Career Pathways After MBBS at Government Medical College, Eluru
Graduates are eligible for NEET-PG to pursue MD, MS and diploma programmes across India; exposure at a district teaching hospital is useful preparation for postgraduate entrance.
After the compulsory rotating internship, GMC Eluru graduates register with the NMC or their State Medical Council to practise. They can then specialise through NEET PG (MD, MS or DNB) and go on to DM or MCh super-specialty training through NEET SS.
Graduates can join the Andhra Pradesh health services and the National Health Mission as medical officers; note that state-funded seats may carry a service obligation.
Graduates also join private and corporate hospitals in Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and other cities, where a strong clinical grounding is valued.
