Introduction
Government Medical College (GMC), Ananthapuram is an established government medical college in the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh, set up in 2000 by the Government of Andhra Pradesh. It admitted its first batch of 100 MBBS students in 2001 and has since grown its intake to 200 MBBS seats, with the National Medical Commission approving an additional 50 seats for the 2024-25 session. Recognised by the NMC and affiliated to Dr. YSR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada, the college also runs postgraduate programmes with 57 seats across 13 disciplines. Clinical training takes place at the attached Government General Hospital, Anantapur, a large referral hospital that gives students broad exposure to patient care and rural health across a populous district.

How to Apply
Admission to MBBS at GMC Ananthapuram is entirely through NEET-UG merit. Of the seats, 15% fall under the All India Quota, allotted through the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), and 85% fall under the Andhra Pradesh state quota, counselled by Dr. YSR University of Health Sciences. State-quota seats follow Andhra Pradesh reservation rules and require local/domicile status. There is no private or NRI quota at this government college.
The student must have passed Class 12 (10+2) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English as compulsory subjects, from a recognised board.
Subjects:
Minimum qualifying-exam marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together: 50% for General/EWS, 40% for SC/ST/OBC, and 45% for PwBD candidates (per NEET-UG norms).
