Introduction
Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Medical College (BJMC), Ahmedabad, is a public medical college started in 1871 and affiliated with the Civil Hospital in the city. It began with a batch of about 14 students trained as hospital assistants and is now affiliated with Gujarat University. BJMC is one of the largest sources of medically qualified manpower in the country, offering MBBS along with postgraduate programs across 24 disciplines and 11 super-specialty streams.

How to Apply
Admission to MBBS at BJMC is through NEET-UG followed by counselling. Of the ~250 seats, 15% are filled via the All India Quota (MCC counselling) and 85% under the Gujarat State Quota. Students register for counselling, submit documents and complete choice filling; seats are allotted on NEET rank, reservation policy and availability, after which students report physically to complete admission formalities within the timeline.
The student must have passed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English.
Subjects:
A minimum of 50% marks together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biochemistry is required (General); reserved categories 40% and PwD 45% (category relaxations apply).

BJMC Ahmedabad spreads over approximately 110 acres, including the main Civil Hospital, other institutions, residential buildings and academic blocks. The academic building is floor-wise — forensic medicine, canteen and administration on the ground floor; auditorium and pathology on the first; microbiology and reading rooms on the second; pharmacology and anatomy on the third — with departmental demonstration rooms, practical labs and lecture rooms on each floor and an indoor badminton court on the ground floor, interconnected with the hospital.

History

BJMC was started in 1871 as the Ahmedabad Medical School with 14 students trained as hospital assistants. Businessman Byramjee Jeejeebhoy later donated ₹20,000 to expand its facilities, and the college was renamed B.J. Medical School.

BJMC students can apply for several Gujarat government scholarships; the supplied schemes are:
A Gujarat government scholarship for NEET-admitted students scoring 80% in Class 12 with annual family income below ₹6 lakh — covering 50% of tuition fees or up to ₹2 lakh per year, whichever is less.
The Mukhyamantri Kanya Kelavani Nidhi Yojana supports female MBBS students (family income below ₹6 lakh), and the merit-based CM Scholarship Scheme offers up to ₹5 lakh to selected students.
A government scholarship for reserved-category students, covering tuition fees, exam fees and maintenance allowances.
Apply for central scholarships through the National Scholarship Portal and for state scholarships through the relevant Gujarat state portal.
Submit the required documents with the application within the deadline.
