Admission Process for MBBS
B.J. Government Medical College offers approximately 250 MBBS seats, filled through NEET-UG followed by counselling. Students apply via Maharashtra State counselling (85% state quota) or All India counselling (15% AIQ). Seats are allotted on NEET rank, reservation, and availability; the supplied state-quota reservation is about 15% SC, 7.5% ST, 30% OBC, and 10% EWS. BJGMC has a 43-acre campus in central Pune (within the Sassoon Hospital campus), with academic blocks, lecture halls, simulation and skill labs, research and molecular-biology labs, a large central library, around 4–5 auditoriums, a sports complex, a new cafeteria, residential blocks, and the ~1,500+ bed Sassoon General Hospital.
The campus spreads over 43 acres at the centre of Pune, with multiple academic blocks, lecture halls, labs, and a large library, plus simulation and skill labs, research labs, and modern departmental equipment.
Sassoon General Hospital, the main on-campus teaching hospital, has approximately 1,500+ beds with advanced departments (plastic surgery, cardiology, neurology, and others) and a daily inflow of about 1,000+ patients, plus operating theatres, a blood bank, full diagnostic imaging, critical-care, and emergency units.
The college has modern laboratories for all basic sciences and specialties, an ICMR-recognised research department with active collaborations, and a molecular-biology lab supporting student research projects.
The central library holds thousands of books, e-books, research papers, reading volumes, and e-journals, with a digital library, and there are separate libraries in the boys' and girls' hostels for flexible study.
The campus has separate hostel blocks for male and female students, with recreational spaces, common rooms, a mess and dining halls, a gym, and more.
A 250-bed cancer hospital (part of the state health plan) is being built on campus, and the college is also planning a formal Oncology department.

B.J. Government Medical College was established on 23 June 1946 by upgrading the earlier B.J. Medical School, which had been started in 1871 under the visionary leadership of philanthropist Byramjee Jeejeebhoy, who aimed to train doctors and provide quality medical services in Pune.
