How to Apply

Admission Process for MBBS

Admission to MBBS at AIIMS Patna is based on NEET-UG, followed by counselling rounds. The institute offers approximately 125 seats each year. Only NEET-UG-qualified students are eligible for counselling, conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) for All India Quota seats. Students fill the application, submit documents, select AIIMS Patna during choice filling, lock their preference, and report to the institute after seat allotment (based on NEET rank, availability, and reservation policy).

History

History Information

Foundation Stone (2004)

AIIMS Patna started with a mission to transform medical services and make education affordable in tier-2 cities. The foundation stone was laid by then Vice President of India, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, on 2 January 2004.

Approval & Founding Director

In August 2010, the Indian cabinet permitted the formation of societies to run the new AIIMS institutions, including AIIMS Patna, at a total cost of approximately ₹823 crore. Work had started around 2009, and Dr. Girish Kumar Singh became the founding Director, resuming duty on 1 November 2011.

Official Opening (2012)

The official opening of AIIMS Patna took place on 25 September 2012. It received recognition as an Institute of National Importance through an Act of Parliament under the AIIMS Bill, 2012, which also allowed it to be an autonomous body.

Early Hospital & Growth

The AIIMS Patna Hospital first started in the AYUSH PMR Block as a mini hospital, and the first surgery was performed on 26 December 2013. The year 2019–20 was a remarkable period of expansion in patient care, academics, and research, and the institute continues to grow.

Housing

AIIMS Patna Hostel Facilities

AIIMS Patna provides a residential complex spread over approximately 34 acres, with 11 hostel buildings in total — 7 for boys and 4 for girls.

Boys' Hostels

Hostels No. 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, 10 & 11 are the boys' hostels with approximately 80, 96, 125, 125, 125, 112, and 120 rooms respectively. There are three dining halls in the boys' hostels with approximately 140 chairs and 70 dining tables.

Girls' Hostels

There are 4 girls' hostels: Hostel No. 4 (resident, ~100 rooms), No. 5 (interns & residents, ~100 rooms), No. 6 (Nursing, ~150 double-seater rooms), and No. 7 (MBBS, ~150 rooms). They have three dining halls with about 105 seats and 65 tables.

Cafeteria & Room Amenities

The cafeteria offers 24/7 service with four meals a day, inspected by the directors and leadership. All hostels have 24/7 electricity backup, running water, and a lift; rooms include a bed with mattress, wardrobe, study table and chair, bookshelf, steel almirah, and fan.

Wi-Fi, RO & Recreation

Refrigerators, Wi-Fi access, RO water, and a central rooftop geyser are available in each hostel. Recreational facilities include a volleyball court, TT room, badminton court, football ground, cricket ground, and television rooms.
