History

Introduction

AIIMS Mangalagiri

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Mangalagiri is Andhra Pradesh's AIIMS, established in 2018 by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY). It is an Institute of National Importance, an autonomous central institution that awards its own MBBS degree rather than affiliating to a state university. The institute admitted its first MBBS batch of 50 students in 2018 from a temporary campus in Vijayawada, moved to its permanent campus at Mangalagiri in Guntur district in 2019, and now admits 125 MBBS students each year through NEET-UG All India Quota counselling. Its teaching hospital, with 500-plus beds and expanding, gives students AIIMS-standard training at near-zero tuition, which is why AIIMS Mangalagiri is one of the most competitive MBBS seats in the state.

    Resident — MBBS

It is an AIIMS, so the fees are almost nothing and the teaching hospital and labs are modern. The patient load has grown a lot as the hospital expanded.

Being a newer AIIMS means some departments and the campus were still developing in the early years, but the core training and faculty quality are strong.
