All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Guwahati (AIIMS Guwahati) is a centrally funded Institute of National Importance at Changsari, in the Kamrup (Rural) district near Guwahati, Assam. Sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) in 2017, it admitted its first MBBS batch of 50 students in January 2021 and was formally inaugurated on 14 April 2023 by the Prime Minister. It is recognised by the National Medical Commission (NMC); as an AIIMS it is an autonomous institute whose MBBS degree is awarded by AIIMS Guwahati itself, not a state health university. It admits about 125 MBBS students each year (started with 50), filled purely on NEET-UG merit through centralised all-India MCC counselling, with no state, management or NRI quota. Admission Process for MBBS
Admission to MBBS at AIIMS Guwahati is entirely through NEET-UG merit and centralised all-India MCC counselling (mcc.nic.in). As an Institute of National Importance, all seats are filled through the all-India merit list; there is no state quota, and no management or NRI quota.

First MBBS batch 2021, inaugurated April 2023
AIIMS Guwahati was sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) in 2017. It admitted its first MBBS batch of 50 students in January 2021, shifted to its permanent 189-acre Changsari campus in 2022, and was formally inaugurated on 14 April 2023 by the Prime Minister.
Growth of Programmes
The MBBS intake began at 50 seats and has expanded to about 125. As a young AIIMS, postgraduate and super-specialty programmes are being developed in the national AIIMS model.
