Professor Carl Wood
Carl Wood was Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Monash University and a pioneer of in vitro fertilisation (IVF). He led the Monash team that achieved the world's first clinical IVF pregnancy (1973) and produced Australia's first IVF baby in 1980, work that has since helped millions of families worldwide conceive. His research made Monash a global birthplace of reproductive medicine.
