How to Apply
Admission to the 6-year English MD is by online application and an online interview in physics, chemistry, biology and the study language — there is no written entrance exam. Indian students should hold a valid NEET qualification for future licensing in India. Applications are made through Azerbaijan's state portal (portal.edu.az) or one of AMU's two official recruitment partners.
International applicants register and apply online through Azerbaijan's state education portal (portal.edu.az) or one of AMU's two official partners, submitting their academic documents for the September 2026 intake.
Indian applicants should hold a valid NEET-UG qualification, required by India's NMC for licensing after a foreign medical degree.
Applicants sit an online interview (US$100 fee) assessing physics, chemistry, biology and their chosen language of study; there is no written entrance exam.
The university's Scientific Council admits successful applicants either directly to Year 1 or to a 6-month Foundation/Preparatory Course, after which a pass admits them to Year 1.
Successful applicants submit original documents, pay the tuition, sign the study contract, and apply for the Azerbaijani student visa and residence permit.
The academic year begins in Baku.
Applicants must have completed Class 12 (or equivalent secondary education) with Physics, Chemistry and Biology. For Indian students, the NMC requires a minimum aggregate of 50% in Physics, Chemistry and Biology (40% for reserved categories) plus English, and a valid NEET qualification, for licensing in India.
Subjects:
Candidates should be at least 17 years old by 31 December of the admission year, in line with NMC rules for studying medicine abroad.
Selection is based on the secondary-school record and an online interview in the sciences and the study language. Indian students also need a valid NEET result for future Indian licensing. Applications are made online via portal.edu.az or an official partner.
Online Interview
An online interview (US$100) assesses physics, chemistry, biology and the chosen language of study; there is no written entrance exam and no MCAT. Applicants may be placed in a 6-month Foundation Course before Year 1.
English Proficiency
International students can study entirely in English; the interview assesses the chosen study language, and English proficiency evidence (for example IELTS/TOEFL) may be requested.
There is no written entrance examination. Admission to the 6-year MD is decided by the secondary-school record and an online interview.
| Component | Requirement |
|---|---|
| School record | Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology |
| Online interview | US$100; assesses physics, chemistry, biology and the study language |
| Foundation Course (if placed) | 6-month preparatory course ending in a pass exam, for applicants who need it |

Housing
Azerbaijan Medical University has student dormitories, two of which are reserved for international students, and many students also rent private flats in Baku.
AMU has six student dormitories, two of which are reserved for international students, giving them secure, affordable housing near the university and its clinics.
The university hostel fee is about US$700 per year (roughly ₹60,000), among the most economical student housing of any medical university, with furnished rooms in shared units.
For those who prefer private housing, a shared or private room in Baku typically costs around US$150–300 per month (roughly ₹13,000–₹26,000), depending on the area and standard.
First-year international students are encouraged to apply for a dormitory place on arrival, which keeps them close to fellow students and eases the move to a new country.
Dormitory places are requested through the university's Dean's Office for Foreign Students after admission; because demand is high, students should apply for a room as soon as they accept their offer.
Many students rent private studios or share flats across Baku, budgeting for a deposit and monthly utilities on top of rent; the city has a wide range of housing.
Baku is a modern city on the Caspian Sea with a metro and bus network, so students can live near the campus and clinics and get around easily and cheaply with student fares.
Baku has a mild, semi-arid climate with warm summers and cool, breezy winters — much gentler than the harsh winters of many MBBS-abroad destinations, and easier for students from India.

Your Roadmap to Success
Graduates who wish to return home appear for the Indian screening examination, currently the FMGE and transitioning to the NExT, complete the required internship and register with the NMC or a State Medical Council. A valid NEET qualification at admission is required under the NMC's 2021 FMG regulations.
Understand the Medical Licensing Pathway
A clear overview of the exams and requirements after graduation.
Practising in India
To practise medicine in India after graduating from Azerbaijan Medical University, Indian students follow the licensing pathway set by the National Medical Commission (NMC). Because AMU is WDOMS-listed and teaches an English-medium six-year MD, it meets the NMC's core criteria, and students should qualify NEET-UG before joining.
Step 1
Graduates must clear the qualifying examination that licenses foreign medical graduates to practise in India. At present this is the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE), which the NMC plans to replace with the National Exit Test (NExT).
Step 2
After qualifying, students complete the required one-year Compulsory Rotatory Residential Internship (CRRI) in India, which builds hands-on experience in Indian clinical settings under the NMC's framework.
Step 3
The final step is registration with the National Medical Commission (NMC) or the relevant State Medical Council. Once registered, the graduate holds a full licence to practise medicine in India.
Student Life Style
Life at Azerbaijan Medical University combines a demanding English-taught medical course with life in Baku, a modern, safe capital on the Caspian Sea with a rich history and mild climate.

Scholarship & Financial
Honest note first: fee-paying international medicine at Azerbaijan Medical University has limited scholarship support, but the low tuition (about US$5,000 a year) already makes it one of the most affordable options.
AMU's tuition of about US$5,000 a year is already among the lowest of any established medical university, so the main saving is in the base fee rather than a separate scholarship; families should plan for the full tuition plus living costs.
