Admission to WKMOMU for Indian students is NEET-based and relatively straightforward. The university admits international applicants on the basis of Class 12 marks and a qualifying NEET-UG score, without a UCAT-style entrance exam or IELTS. Legacy
Since 1957, the university has trained doctors for western Kazakhstan and beyond. Research found few internationally famous individual graduates, so this section is kept honest and verified rather than padded, focusing on the university's namesake and founding heritage.
The university is named after Marat Ospanov, a distinguished Kazakh doctor (Doctor of Medical Sciences) and statesman who served as Chairman of the Majilis, the lower house of Kazakhstan's Parliament, and who worked at the institution for more than twenty years. The academy was named in his honour in 2000.
The Aktobe State Medical Institute was founded in 1957, with Doctor of Medical Sciences and Academician A. B. Dairov appointed as its first rector — a founding figure in the university's long history of medical education in western Kazakhstan.
Rather than a list of celebrity graduates, the university's story is its role since 1957 as a principal training ground for doctors in western Kazakhstan, now teaching international students, including students from India, in English.
