How to Apply
Admission to SKMA for Indian students is NEET-based and relatively straightforward. SKMA admits international applicants on the basis of Class 12 marks and a qualifying NEET-UG score, without a UCAT-style entrance exam or IELTS. Students should apply through the academy's admission office or a legitimate, verified route and pay only to the academy's official bank account.
Applicants must have passed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English, and must have a qualifying NEET-UG score, which is required for Indian applicants and for later Indian licensing.
Confirm with SKMA that the General Medicine programme and its internship meet the NMC's duration and same-institution conditions, and get the exact structure and awarded qualification in writing before committing.
Apply to SKMA's admission office (directly or through a legitimate, verified representative) with academic documents and passport; verify any agent's legitimacy and never pay large sums to intermediaries.
Eligible students receive an admission/invitation letter, and Indian students obtain the NMC Eligibility Certificate now expected before starting an MBBS abroad.
Students apply for the Kazakhstan student visa and pay tuition to SKMA's official bank account in tenge; keep official receipts.
Students enrol at the start of the academic year and complete arrival formalities and a medical check in Shymkent.
Applicants must have passed Class 12 (or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English. The general requirement is a minimum of 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together (with the standard relaxation to 40% for SC/ST/OBC and other reserved categories), in line with the National Medical Commission's eligibility norms for studying MBBS abroad.

Kazakhstan reformed its medical education, so the exact structure and internship arrangement matter for Indian licensing and should be confirmed in writing.

Legacy
Since 1979, South Kazakhstan Medical Academy has trained doctors and pharmacists for southern Kazakhstan and, increasingly, for the world. Research found few internationally famous individual alumni, so this section is kept honest and verified rather than padded.
SKMA was established in 1979 and its Faculty of Medicine (General Medicine) opened in 1992. Its heritage is associated with founding academics such as Professor Kanapia Zhumagazievich Kudabaev, the first dean of the medical faculty, and Professor Agabek Karabekovich Karabekov, dean from 1997 — figures who helped build medical education in Shymkent.
The academy reports that a large number of its Indian graduates have cleared the FMGE and now practise as doctors across India, in government and private hospitals and their own clinics; this is an aggregate track record rather than a list of named individuals.
Rather than a list of celebrity graduates, SKMA's story is its role since 1979 as a principal training ground for doctors in southern Kazakhstan, now teaching a large international, including Indian, student body in English.
Teaching is delivered by the academy's schools and departments and Shymkent's city and regional hospitals, with clinical bases and a simulation centre. The academy is led by its Rector, Professor Bakhytzhan Deribsaliyevich Seksenbayev.

Practising in India
An Indian graduate of South Kazakhstan Medical Academy who wants to practise in India follows the licensing pathway set by the National Medical Commission (NMC): qualifying NEET before starting, completing a course and internship that meet the NMC's conditions, clearing the NMC screening examination (currently the FMGE, transitioning to the NExT), completing the required internship in India and registering with the medical council. The NMC does not 'approve' individual foreign universities; it sets conditions, and the Kazakh degree-structure choice is central to meeting them.
Step 1
An Indian student must have qualified NEET-UG before beginning the course abroad to be eligible later for Indian licensing. A qualifying NEET score is required for admission, and an NMC Eligibility Certificate is now expected before starting.
Step 2
The Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations 2021 require the course and internship to meet the NMC's minimum duration (about 54 months of study plus a 12-month internship), completed in the SAME institution, taught in English, with a degree that entitles the holder to practise in Kazakhstan. Because Kazakhstan reformed its medical structure, students must confirm in writing that SKMA's programme and internship meet these conditions.
Step 3
Graduates must clear the qualifying examination for foreign medical graduates, currently the FMGE, which India is replacing with the National Exit Test (NExT), then complete the required internship in India and register with the National Medical Commission or a State Medical Council. SKMA reports offering in-house FMGE coaching to support this.
