How to Apply
Admission to AMU for Indian students is direct and NEET-based. AMU selects international applicants through an online interview and online tests in Chemistry and Biology, and its own admission rules require a NEET certificate from Indian citizens. Importantly, AMU states it has no agents in India, so students should apply directly to the university and pay only to its official bank account.
Applicants must have passed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology and English, and must have a qualifying NEET-UG score; AMU's own admission documents require a NEET certificate from Indian applicants.
Confirm with AMU that the General Medicine programme and its internship meet the NMC's duration and same-institution conditions, and get the exact structure and awarded qualification in writing, given AMU lists a 7-year term.
Apply directly through AMU's admission committee (the university states it has no India agents) with academic documents and passport; foreign applicants take an online interview and online Chemistry and Biology tests.
Eligible students receive an admission letter, and Indian students obtain the NMC Eligibility Certificate now expected before starting an MBBS abroad.
Students apply for the Kazakhstan student visa and pay tuition only to AMU's official bank account in tenge (AMU warns against paying intermediaries).

Legacy
Over six decades, Astana Medical University has trained doctors for Kazakhstan's capital region. Research found few internationally famous individual alumni, so this section is kept honest rather than padded, focusing on the university's verified figures and heritage.
Professor A. R. Rakhishev, a Candidate of Medical Sciences and anatomist, was the founding organiser of the institute in 1964 and helped establish medical education in what is now Astana. He is remembered as a founding figure of the university.
The university honours senior Kazakh physicians and scientists in the names of its departments and research institutes, including Professor G. V. Tsoi (surgery) and academicians such as Ye. D. Dalenov and Zh. Kh. Khamzabayev, reflecting a strong local clinical and research tradition.
Rather than a list of celebrity graduates, AMU's story is its role since 1964 as a principal training ground for doctors in Kazakhstan's capital region, now teaching international students in English.

An Indian graduate of Astana Medical University who wants to practise in India follows the licensing pathway set by the National Medical Commission (NMC): qualifying NEET before starting, completing a course and internship that meet the NMC's conditions, clearing the NMC screening examination (currently the FMGE, transitioning to the NExT), completing the required internship in India and registering with the medical council. The NMC does not 'approve' individual foreign universities; it sets conditions, and the Kazakh degree-structure choice is central to meeting them.
Step 1
An Indian student must have qualified NEET-UG before beginning the course abroad to be eligible later for Indian licensing. AMU itself requires a NEET certificate from Indian applicants, and an NMC Eligibility Certificate is now expected before starting.
Step 2
The Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations 2021 require the course and internship to meet the NMC's minimum duration (about 54 months of study plus a 12-month internship), completed in the SAME institution, taught in English, with a degree that entitles the holder to practise in Kazakhstan. Because AMU lists General Medicine as a 7-year programme with an integrated internship, students must confirm in writing that their programme and internship meet these conditions.

Graduates must clear the qualifying examination for foreign medical graduates, currently the FMGE, which India is replacing with the National Exit Test (NExT), then complete the required internship in India and register with the National Medical Commission or a State Medical Council.
