How to Apply
Admission to HUST Tongji's English-taught MBBS is through HUST's International Students Office, based on Class 12 (PCB) results and English-medium requirements. It is not decided on NEET, but Indian students must have qualified NEET to be eligible later for Indian licensing.
Applicants need Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology (typically at least 50% aggregate in PCB); Indian students must also hold a qualifying NEET-UG score, mandatory for later Indian licensing.
International applicants apply through HUST's International Students Office with academic documents, passport, the NEET scorecard and any required English-proficiency evidence.
HUST reviews the application (and may conduct an interview); admission is based on academic record and eligibility, and the international MBBS intake, while sizeable, is competitive.
Selected students receive an admission letter and JW202 form for the Chinese student visa.
Students apply for the Chinese student (X) visa with the admission documents and complete a medical check.
The English-taught MBBS begins in the September intake in Wuhan; students study Chinese (HSK) alongside from the start.
Applicants need Class 12 (or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry and Biology and good marks (typically at least 50% aggregate in PCB). For Indian students who intend to practise in India, the National Medical Commission's norms also apply: a minimum of 50% in PCB (40% for reserved categories) and a qualifying NEET-UG score. English-medium proficiency (IELTS/TOEFL may be requested) is expected.

Indian students should be at least 17 years old by 31 December of the year of admission, in line with the National Medical Commission's rules for MBBS.
International applicants apply through HUST's International Students Office with academic and, where required, English-proficiency documents. Indian students also need a valid NEET-UG score, and should be prepared to reach HSK Level 5 in Chinese before the clinical rotations and for Chinese licensing.
English MBBS + HSK-5 Chinese
The MBBS is taught in English, but students must reach HSK Level 5 in Chinese before the internship/clinical clerkship, to communicate with patients and for the Chinese medical licensing exam.
NEET for India Licensing
NEET is not part of HUST admission, but Indian students must have qualified NEET-UG before starting to be eligible for the FMGE/NExT and Indian registration later.
There is no UCAT-style entrance test; HUST admits on academic record, English-medium eligibility and a document review or interview.

Legacy
Tongji Medical College has an outstanding heritage, having produced some of the most important figures in Chinese medicine, including national supreme science laureates. The figures below are genuinely and verifiably connected to Tongji / HUST.
Qiu Fazu (1914-2008) is regarded as a father of modern Chinese surgery and a pioneer of organ transplantation and hepatobiliary surgery. An academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, he was a long-serving dean and honorary president of Tongji, and shaped surgical education across China.
Wu Mengchao (1922-2021), a Tongji medical graduate, is known as the father of Chinese hepatic (liver) surgery. An academician and winner of China's National Supreme Science and Technology Award in 2005, he performed thousands of liver operations and transformed the field in China.
Hou Yunde is a distinguished virologist and a graduate of Tongji, an academician and former vice-president of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, who won China's National Supreme Science and Technology Award in 2018 for his work in molecular virology and interferon research.
Chen Xiaoping is a leading hepatobiliary surgeon and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences at Tongji Hospital, who has advanced liver surgery and organ transplantation research in China and helped train a generation of surgeons.
Frank B. Hu, a Tongji medical graduate, is a professor at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and a member of the US National Academy of Medicine, and one of the world's most-cited researchers in nutrition and chronic-disease epidemiology.
Teaching is delivered by Tongji's medical faculty and its world-famous Wuhan teaching hospitals, with numerous academicians of the Chinese Academies of Sciences and Engineering. Tongji Medical College reports having cultivated sixteen academicians and more than ninety thousand medical graduates.

Housing
HUST provides on-campus dormitory accommodation for international students at a low cost, and there is a private-rental market in Wuhan. Housing should be confirmed with HUST's International Students Office.
HUST offers on-campus international-student dormitories at a low annual cost, close to the medical campus and facilities; apply early through the International Students Office.
Dormitory rooms are furnished with the basics and offer a secure, supervised student environment.
Wuhan accommodation is inexpensive by Chinese big-city standards, well below Shanghai or Beijing, helping keep the overall cost low.
Students who prefer more independence can rent private rooms or apartments near the campus at a moderate cost.
With a large and long-standing Indian and international community in Wuhan, students find familiar food, messes and senior-student support near the campus.

Practising in India
An Indian graduate of HUST Tongji who wants to practise in India follows the licensing pathway set by the National Medical Commission (NMC): qualifying NEET before starting, completing a course and internship that meet the NMC's conditions, clearing the NMC screening examination (currently the FMGE, transitioning to the NExT), completing the required internship in India and registering with the medical council. HUST Tongji's English-taught MBBS satisfies the NMC's English-medium condition, which is a genuine advantage, but the NMC does not 'approve' individual foreign universities, so each student must meet the conditions.
Step 1
Under NMC rules, an Indian student must have qualified NEET-UG before beginning the course abroad to be eligible later for Indian licensing. NEET is mandatory both to study MBBS abroad and to sit the FMGE/NExT.
Step 2
The Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations 2021 require a course and internship of at least 54 months plus a 12-month internship in the same institution, an English medium of instruction (which HUST Tongji's MBBS satisfies), and a degree that entitles the holder to be registered as a physician in the country of study. Note that to be licensed in China itself, graduates must pass the Chinese medical licensing exam, which needs Chinese (HSK Level 5).
Step 3
Graduates must clear the qualifying examination for foreign medical graduates, currently the FMGE, which India is replacing with the National Exit Test (NExT), then complete the required internship in India and register with the National Medical Commission or a State Medical Council.

Fees & Financial
HUST Tongji is one of the more affordable elite China options, and scholarships exist. Realistic financial planning still matters, but the overall cost is lower than at the Shanghai schools.
The English-taught MBBS tuition is about RMB 40,000 per year (roughly ₹4.6 lakh), around ₹28 lakh over six years, plus low-cost on-campus accommodation and moderate Wuhan living costs, so the realistic all-in cost is about ₹45–55 lakh over the six years, cheaper than Fudan or SJTU.
